Thought for the Approach of Christmas

Here is a thought that is really for all those who are lapsed Catholics, or are among the indifferent, sceptical or hostile concerning the purpose and teaching of Jesus Christ in a stable at Bethlehem.

The thought originates from the memory of having heard or read something along these lines by an unknown priest years ago. It very much reflects something that the social agenda-setters have been trying to stamp out, especially from the minds of children, since the 'Sixties: the reflexive importance of common sense. Those who read the writings of the resurgent G.K. Chesterton will understand why he is known as the Apostle of Common Sense, which he may teach by paradox rather than parable!

So here is an important thought for everyone at this time of year:

CHRISTMAS WITHOUT THE CHRIST IS LIKE SUNSHINE WITHOUT THE SUN

The Name and Some Article References

In choosing a name for this new blog I wanted to devise a title that gave honour to the Rosary of Our Blessed Lady. In the tradition of the link of this great devotion with St. Dominic, I have taken the name of a Friar of the Order of Preachers, Fra Alanus de Rupe (better known as Bd. Alan de la Roche), who was of monumental importance in the revival of European devotion to the Rosary in the latter 15th.c., and Saint Louis-Marie de Grignon Montfort whose True Devotion To Mary is perhaps the greatest work on Rosary devotion, and from which Pope John Paul II took his motto Totus Tuus (Maria). Montfort was also a Tertiary Dominican and his brother a Dominican friar.

Some of my articles have found their way onto the Web and can be found on Seattle Catholic, The St. Catherine of Siena Society and Our Lady of West Grinstead Shrine.
